Lab Journey: A Streamline Case Study
Industry: Medical Research
Situation
TriMetis initially engaged Streamline in 2015 to help simplify its complex biospecimen supply chain, from inbound logistics to client delivery. Since Streamline is a part of Salesforce’s app cloud, it was a perfectly adaptable off-the-shelf solution that helped TriMetis better maintain order integrity, reduce costs and track shipments in real time.
Since then, Streamline has worked closely with TriMetis to backfill the application with data, which spurred further growth. Streamline adapted to TriMetis’s growing needs by developing further applications, including the ARCH LabFlow.
Company Profile
TriMetis helps pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies and academic institutions more efficiently and effectively advance research through specialty laboratory and consultation services.
A pioneering tissue technology company with over two decades of experience, TriMetis is revolutionizing the biospecimen sourcing landscape for client companies. Its extensive expertise in obtaining high-quality biospecimens and data from diverse network of medical facilities empowers it to deliver top-notch biospecimens to scientific buyers. By streamlining routine analyses, technicians and pathologists can focus on critical, revenue-generating tasks.
The Challenge
More than 10 years ago, TriMetis Life Sciences implemented Saleforce for client relationship management (CRM) to power business development and biospecimen and laboratory sales.
“As we grew, TriMetis business operations required that we start to implement supply chain management in order to scale,” said Leif Honda, TriMetis Life Sciences Chief Innovation Officer. “Salesforce being more than just a sales-side CRM allowed us to configure our supply chain management, starting with the client all the way to the supplier.”
In particular, it was essential to find a partner to help streamline the logistical challenges TriMetis and its clients faced. “We do fresh tissue shipments, which requires immediate attention, sending directly to the research facility,” Honda explained. “So we never receive these shipments in house, we just manage them from one point to their research destinations.
“Sometimes we’re getting different tissues from different countries. Some require more instructions that others,” he said. “We have to handle different shipping times and methods.
So, we’re managing a lot of nuts and bolts. Our business is predicated on how well we deliver what researchers need. Our business is international – Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, South American, USA, the Indian subcontinent. So there are lots of samples to manage from different places.
“TriMetis explored a number of Salesforce Partners, conducting diligence on their experience, personnel, technical capabilities, active examples and client satisfaction,” Honda said. “One partner stood out whose support met the requirements needed to build a marketplace platform that allowed for the flexibility and scalability to take our business to the next level.”
The Solution: ARCH LabFlow – Workflow Automation
The LabFlow journey within ARCH LabFlow is designed to automate the management of digital H&E images, remove major obstacles in the transition to a digital workflow, and optimize the efficiency of pathology laboratories. The platform leverages advanced technologies, such as the TriMetis Computer-Assisted Pathology (TCAP) system, to streamline the entire process, ensuring seamless integration with existing digital pathology systems and providing significant benefits to pathology laboratories.
Benefits
◦ Automation of Digital H&E Image Management:
▪ ARCH LabFlow automates the management of digital H&E images, eliminating inefficiencies associated with handling glass slides and case files. This automation streamlines the process of analyzing and tracking samples from the scanner through testing, automating lab-specific quality control metrics and processes. The platform removes major obstacles in the move to a digital workflow, saving time, money and optimizing staff hours. This automation allows pathologists to focus on tasks more befitting their expertise, ultimately enhancing the overall efficiency of pathology laboratories.
◦ Integration with Existing Digital Pathology Systems:
▪ The ARCH Ecosystem can be easily layered on top of existing image handling or digital pathology systems, providing a seamless integration process. This ensures that pathology laboratories can leverage the benefits of LabFlow without the need for extensive system overhauls.
◦ Advanced Technologies and Quality Control:
▪ The integrated TCAP quality control system handles tissue validation for the entire lab at a fraction of the cost of a new hire, eliminating bottlenecks, raising throughput and optimizing staff hours. This advanced technology saves time, saves money, and allows pathologists to focus on higher-value tasks.
LabFlow also enables accurate analysis and tracking of samples from the scanner through testing, automating lab-specific quality control metrics and processes. This ensures that pathology laboratories can maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
Summary
The LabFlow journey within ARCH LabFlow automates the management of digital H&E images, removes obstacles in the transition to a digital workflow, and optimizes the efficiency of pathology laboratories. By leveraging advanced technologies and seamless integration with existing digital pathology systems, LabFlow revolutionizes the digital pathology landscape, providing significant benefits to pathology laboratories and ultimately contributing to advancements in medical science and patient care.
